If you've ever wondered what it's like to feel something massive pull line off your reel before you've even had a chance to brace yourself, April on Florida's southwest Gulf Coast is your answer. Here at Shark Chaser Charters, we've built everything around one specific and spectacular pursuit — sharks — and April is one of those months where everything just lines up. The water warms, the baitfish stack up, and the sharks follow. It's that simple, and it's that good.
As one of the only dedicated shark fishing charters in Naples, Florida, we run trips out of Naples, Marco Island, Port of the Islands, and Goodland — giving us access to an incredible range of water across Collier County's southwest Gulf Coast. From the quiet backcountry shallows of the Ten Thousand Islands to nearshore Gulf passes and grass flats teeming with life, this fishery is unlike anything else in the state. On our 22-foot Triton, we keep things lean and personal. No crowds, no cattle-boat experience. Just you, the water, and a focused mission. If you've been searching for a fishing charter near Marco Island or a backcountry shark fishing guide in Naples, you've found the right boat. April sits right in the sweet spot between Florida's cooler winter months and the full heat of summer. Water temperatures are climbing into the mid-to-upper 70s, and that temperature swing is like a dinner bell for sharks. Blacktips are cruising in good numbers this time of year, often running in packs along the edges of the flats and passes. They're aggressive, fast, and when they hit, there's no mistaking it. Nurse sharks are a reliable year-round presence in this fishery and offer a great opportunity for anglers of all experience levels to get their hands on a real shark without the chaos of a more aggressive species. Bull sharks are the heavyweights here — thick, powerful fish that use the shallow backwater rivers and mangrove-lined cuts that make Southwest Florida so unique. They're the ones that will genuinely make your knees shake. And as spring rolls in, hammerheads begin making appearances along the Gulf-side beaches and nearshore ledges, some of them pushing six feet and beyond. For anglers booking a nearshore fishing charter out of Naples or Marco Island in April, this species diversity is hard to beat anywhere in Florida. What should you expect on a Shark Chaser trip in April? We're on the water early, targeting structure, current, and bait. I'll be working through spots that have produced for me across years of running fishing charters in Southwest Florida, from the backcountry mangroves around Goodland and Port of the Islands to the Gulf-side flats off Naples and Marco Island. We fish live and fresh cut bait — ladyfish, mullet, catfish, whatever the water is giving us that day — rigged on heavy gear appropriate for the fish we're after. When a strike comes, it's all hands on the reel. Fights can last anywhere from a quick, fierce battle with a blacktip to a prolonged back-and-forth with a bull or hammer that will have your forearms burning by the end. We practice catch and release for almost all of our sharks, handling them carefully and getting them back in the water healthy and strong. It's something I take seriously out here. April also tends to be a beautiful time to be on the water before the summer heat settles in for good. Mornings are comfortable, the light is stunning across the Ten Thousand Islands, and wildlife sightings — dolphins, osprey, roseate spoonbills — are just part of the backdrop. Whether you're a Naples visitor looking for a unique guided fishing experience, a local angler ready to chase something with real teeth, or a group planning a Southwest Florida fishing trip around a bucket-list catch, this is the season to do it. There's simply no better place to book a shark fishing charter on the Gulf Coast of Florida than right here in Collier County in April. Trips are booking up, and April weekends go fast. Reach out and let's get you on the water. — Captain Brian, Shark Chaser Charters
