Southwest Florida's March Shark Spectacular: Bulls, Lemons, and Hammerheads Biting Strong in Naples & Marco Island Waters

3/19/2025

March has brought its typical mix of gorgeous Florida days punctuated by windy fronts across Naples, Marco Island, Port of the Islands, and Goodland—but that hasn't slowed down the incredible shark action one bit for our Shark Chaser Charters clients. In fact, the seasonal patterns have created multiple distinct shark fishing opportunities throughout our diverse fishing grounds.

The legendary Ten Thousand Islands ecosystem has been absolutely on fire this month, producing exceptional encounters with a variety of impressive shark species. Our clients have been connecting with powerful bull sharks in the 5-7 foot range, with several specimens exceeding 8 feet during full-day charters. These bulldogs of the shallows have been particularly aggressive, making blistering runs that test both tackle and angler.

Lemon sharks have also been a consistent presence in the Ten Thousand Islands, with their distinctive light yellow-brown coloration making for spectacular sight fishing opportunities. These sharks, often reaching 6-9 feet, have been particularly active during the warming trend days between fronts. Their methodical fighting style, featuring powerful surges and head shakes, creates an unforgettable battle on appropriate tackle.

For anglers seeking non-stop action, bonnethead sharks have been schooling in impressive numbers throughout the region's shallow bays and channels. These smaller members of the hammerhead family provide fast-paced opportunities, especially for younger anglers or those new to shark fishing. While typically ranging from 3-4 feet, their aggressive feeding behavior and quick runs make them perfect sporting targets on light tackle.

The blacktip shark bite has been equally impressive this month. These acrobatic predators, known for their spectacular aerial displays when hooked, have been particularly active in areas with stronger current flow. Their blistering speed and unpredictable fighting style make them a favorite among our Shark Chaser Charters clients seeking an adrenaline-filled experience.

When the winds kick up, our specialized knowledge of the region's intricate backcountry waterways truly shines. Our captains have been navigating deep into the protected mangrove systems, where massive lemon and bull sharks seek shelter during windier periods. These secluded areas not only provide comfortable fishing conditions regardless of weather but also hold some of the largest specimens in the region. Several of our recent charters have connected with trophy-class sharks in these sheltered waters when other boats couldn't even leave the dock.

Our offshore shark fishing ventures have produced equally impressive results when conditions allow. The deeper waters off Naples and Marco Island have been yielding consistent action with blacknose and Atlantic sharpnose sharks, providing steady action between encounters with larger species. The real offshore highlight has been several successful encounters with hammerhead sharks, including a magnificent 11-footer landed and released after an epic hour-long battle just last week.

As we move deeper into spring, we anticipate the shark fishing to only improve across all of our fishing zones. The warming trend will increase shark metabolism and feeding activity, while also bringing additional migratory species into our waters. Tiger sharks typically begin making appearances in April, while larger hammerheads should become more common as we approach May.

Whether you're an experienced shark angler looking to test your skills against these powerful predators or a family seeking an unforgettable fishing adventure, Shark Chaser Charters provides specialized trips tailored to your preferences. Our experienced captains utilize the perfect combination of tackle, techniques, and local knowledge to maximize your chances for success.

Don't miss your opportunity to experience the world-class shark fishing that Naples, Marco Island, Port of the Islands, and Goodland have to offer this spring. Contact Shark Chaser Charters today!

These powerful creatures cruise through our coastal waters year-round, providing anglers with the heart-pounding fight and unforgettable experience that only shark fishing can deliver. If you're seeking the ultimate shark fishing adventure in Southwest Florida, Shark Chaser Charters offers specialized expeditions targeting these magnificent creatures from multiple convenient locations.

Southwest Florida's Premier Shark Fishing Destination
What makes the waters of Naples, Marco Island, Port of the Islands, and Goodland so exceptional for shark fishing? This unique ecosystem creates the perfect environment for numerous shark species to thrive. The nutrient-rich waters, extensive mangrove systems, and diverse marine habitats attract an abundance of baitfish and other prey species, which in turn draw in sharks from various species.

Throughout the year, Capt. Brian encounters blacktip sharks, bull sharks, lemon sharks, hammerheads, nurse sharks, and the occasional tiger shark. This impressive diversity means every Shark Chaser Charters expedition offers the opportunity for a distinct and exciting experience.

Naples Shark Fishing: Urban Adventure Meets Wild Nature

Naples shark fishing charters provide the perfect balance between convenience and wilderness adventure. Just minutes from downtown Naples, you'll find yourself battling powerful sharks in their natural habitat. The nearby Gordon Pass area and the waters just off Naples Beach produce consistent shark action, particularly during the spring and summer months when blacktip and bull sharks migrate through the area in impressive numbers.

Our Naples-based charters are ideal for visitors staying in the city who want to experience the thrill of shark fishing without traveling far from their accommodations. Within minutes of leaving the dock, you'll be in prime shark territory, maximizing your fishing time and enhancing your chances for multiple catches during your trip.

Marco Island Shark Fishing: Pristine Waters, Powerful Predators
Marco Island's location at the gateway to the Ten Thousand Islands creates a unique shark fishing opportunity. The mixture of open Gulf waters and protected backcountry areas means we can target different shark species in various environments, adapting to weather conditions to ensure a productive day on the water.

The channels and deeper cuts around Marco Island are renowned for hosting larger shark species, including bull sharks and hammerheads. During the warmer months, it's not uncommon to encounter sharks exceeding 7 feet in length, providing the fight of a lifetime for even the most experienced anglers.

Shark Chaser Charters' Marco Island excursions often yield multiple species in a single trip, offering diverse fishing experiences as we move between different productive zones surrounding the island.

Port of the Islands: The Hidden Gem of Florida Shark Fishing
Less known to casual visitors but treasured by serious shark anglers, Port of the Islands offers exceptional access to remote shark habitats with less fishing pressure than more popular areas. This secluded location at the edge of the Everglades provides a unique opportunity to target sharks in a more pristine environment.

The brackish waters and numerous channels create perfect hunting grounds for bull sharks, which are often found here in impressive numbers. The area's unique geography also makes it an excellent location for targeting sharks during changing weather conditions, as we can quickly adapt to find protected waters when winds increase.

Our Port of the Islands shark fishing charters give anglers the chance to experience Old Florida while engaging with some of the ocean's most formidable predators.

Goodland Shark Fishing: Old Florida Charm, World-Class Action
Goodland's unique position at the southeastern edge of Marco Island provides access to diverse shark habitats within minutes of leaving the dock. This historic fishing village serves as the perfect launching point for expeditions targeting the abundant shark population in the surrounding waters.

The area's proximity to both Gullivan Bay and the interior waterways of the Ten Thousand Islands means our Goodland shark fishing charters can target multiple environments based on conditions and shark activity patterns. During the warmer months, the nearshore Gulf waters often produce spectacular action with blacktip sharks, while the deeper channels hold larger bull sharks and occasional hammerheads.
