If you've ever wanted to feel your heart pound, your arms burn, and your jaw drop all at the same time, Southwest Florida in March is calling your name. Here at Shark Chaser Charters, we specialize exclusively in shark fishing across some of the most productive shark waters in the country — Naples, Marco Island, Port of the Islands, and Goodland — and we can tell you with confidence that March is one of the most exciting months of the entire year to be on the water.

As winter loosens its grip and water temperatures begin climbing back into the mid-to-upper 70s, sharks that have been holding in slightly deeper, warmer water start pushing aggressively into the shallower flats, backcountry channels, and nearshore areas that define this corner of Florida. The Ten Thousand Islands region, which we fish constantly out of Goodland and Port of the Islands, comes alive this time of year in a way that's hard to fully describe until you've experienced it firsthand. Baitfish are on the move, the mangrove edges are teeming with life, and sharks follow the food with a predictability that makes March one of our most productive and thrilling months on the calendar.

The waters around Marco Island and Naples offer incredible diversity. You can go from fishing a shallow grassy flat where you're sight-casting to a cruising bull shark one moment, to working a deeper channel edge near the pass for big hammerheads the next. That variety — the ability to adapt and target different species in different environments all in a single trip — is part of what makes this region so special and why we never get tired of running these waters.

Speaking of species, March serves up an impressive lineup. Bull sharks are arguably the stars of the show, and for good reason. These are thick, powerful, aggressive animals that fight with a ferocity that will test your tackle and your endurance. They're common throughout our fishing areas and are one of the most sought-after targets on every charter we run. Blacktip sharks are also extremely active in March, frequently seen in large numbers along the beaches and nearshore areas. They're acrobatic fighters that have a habit of launching themselves completely out of the water, which never stops being spectacular. Nurse sharks, while slower in temperament, offer a great experience for younger anglers or first-timers — they're hefty, they pull hard, and they're a lot of fun without being overwhelming. As the month progresses and water temperatures creep up, spinner sharks make their appearance as well, living up to their name by spinning through the air during the fight in a way that will have everyone on the boat reaching for their phones.

One of the truly magical things about this time of year in the Ten Thousand Islands area out of Goodland and Port of the Islands is the ability to combine the raw power of shark fishing with the stunning beauty of the backcountry. You're winding through mangrove tunnels, watching ospreys dive, and surrounded by a wilderness that feels completely removed from the rest of the world — and then suddenly a six-foot blacktip is peeling drag and running toward the horizon. It's a combination you simply cannot find everywhere.

What should you expect on a Shark Chaser Charter in March? Expect a full, hands-on experience from the moment you step aboard. We handle the rigging, the bait, and the strategy — our entire operation is built around shark fishing, not divided across a dozen different species and techniques. That specialization means we know where the fish are, how they're moving given the current tides and water temps, and what presentation is going to get the best results on any given day. Expect to work. Shark fishing is not a passive experience. These fish will test you physically, and that's the point. But it's also deeply rewarding in a way that's difficult to put into words until you've stood at the rail and won that battle yourself.

Whether you're departing from the Naples waterfront, launching out of Marco Island, or heading deep into the backcountry from Port of the Islands or Goodland, the fish are there in March and so are we. Spots fill quickly as the season heats up, so if you've been thinking about booking, there's no better time than right now. Shark Chaser Charters is ready to put you on the fish of a lifetime.
